Outline of the SketchUp Training Course
This course is intended to give a detailed
knowledge of the basic functions
of SketchUp, as well as an introduction to some of the more advanced
and
obscure features. I will talk about how and when SketchUp
can be best used
in practice to complement other CAD software.
Participants should have some working knowledge
of SketchUp, whether this be
through playing around with the trial version or using it regularly
in practice.
The course will take the form of a workshop
- Please bring your
laptops. The course will be conducted in SketchUp 5 (the new
version).
Trial copies of SketchUp 5 will be available for you to install
on your own
machines on the day. Please feel free to bring along
any models you may
have been working on, both for advice and to show everyone else
what you get
up to in your practice.
About the
Workshop convenor
"My name is Peter Agnew. I have recently completed my
Diploma in
Architecture at the University of Nottingham and have been a SketchUp
user
for about 3 years. I have taught SketchUp to first and second
years at the
University and in practice. I am particularly interested in
using SketchUp
together with other programs to produce great results.
I am not a sales-person and am not here to try to convince you to
go out and
buy loads of copies (I'm not on commission!). I believe that
it's a great
program with hundreds of potential applications, and which is very
easy to
learn. This course will go way beyond the basics of creating
geometry and
(hopefully) answer any questions you may have about using SketchUp
in
practice."

(or as much as we can cover in the day!)
David NC writes: Peter Agnew has
just completed our final year at Nottingham, but for the last two
years has also helped out as a tutor in First year, teaching design
and CAD skills in ArchiCAD, Sketchup and Rhino. His grasp of Sketchup
is remarkable, as is his enthusiasm for passing on his skills to
others. He presented an advanced Sketchup workshop in 2004 which
was very highly thought of by participants. This course isn't a
first timer, he has already run the full one-day course professionally
for an ArchiCAD/Sketchup reseller.
