ACUE Sailing Weekend in the Solent: April 22-23 2006: Report
|
We had a pleasant sailing
weekend on the Solent. Although the winds were too light for
an ideal sailing experience, we had a good boat and skipper,
nice food, and interesting places to visit. See the map below
for the route. |

Saturday
had a light SE breeze which helped us sail closehauled towards the
Nab Tower. We stopped for lunch at anchor in Bembridge Bay. Later
we tied up for the night at the delightful village of Itchenor
in the Chichester Channel. We blew up the dinghy and outboard, and
checked out the small pub ashore. Below is the actual printout from
the GPS based chart. |
On Sunday, we made an early
start and travelled westward with the tide. The day started off
rainy, but visibility and conditions improved. The SE wind was behind
us and too weak for sailing, so we motored to Newtown on the NW
coast of the Isle of Wight. Newtown is a small estuary surrounded
by National
Trust land. Later we sailed back towards Southampton with enough
wind and tide to make modest progress.

This is now full, ask to be put on the reserve list if you
are interested (but dont buy a flight ticket unless your sail booking
is confirmed).
